Welcome to Surry County
Welcome to the official government website of Surry County, North Carolina, originally chartered in 1770. Surry County is located in northwest North Carolina and is a part of the region known as the Piedmont Triad. The county is unique in that its topography includes portions of the Piedmont, Foothills, and the Blue Ridge Mountains and is home to four pristine waterways including the Yadkin River. Surry County is home to the municipalities of Dobson, Elkin, Mount Airy, and Pilot Mountain. Over 73,000 people reside in Surry which has a diverse economy with concentrations in agriculture, automotive, advanced manufacturing, and metal fabrication. Non-emergency offices are open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:15 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with the exception of major holidays. The Board of Commissioners typically meet on the first and third Mondays of the month, with some exceptions. Click Here for a video tour of the County.
BOCC Recessed MeetingThe Board of Commissioners recessed their October 17th meeting until Wednesday, October 26th at 2:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Government Center in Dobson.
Litter Pick-Up for NonProfit GroupsSurry County Sponsors a County-Wide Pick Up Program for Nonprofit Groups.
In October 2016 the Surry Board of Commissioners approved a litter pickup program in conjunction with the NC Department of Transportation, to pay nonprofit organizations on a per-bag basis for litter picked up along roadsides chosen by the nonprofit organization.
