BOCC Recognizes Career Academy Students

During their March 19th meeting at Mountain Park Elementary School, the Board of Commissioners recognized twelve Surry County Schools students for their participation in the Next Generation Career Academy. These students are spending part of each school day interning at local businesses and industries.

NCDOT Public Meeting

NCDOT has scheduled a public meeting to solicit comments on the proposed improvements on US 601 (Rockford Street), between US 52 (Andy Griffith Parkway) and Forrest Drive in Mount Airy. The meeting will be a "drop-in" format and will take place on Thursday, March 29th, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Reeves Community Center, 113 South Renfro Street, Mount Airy.


All non-emergency offices will be closing at 9:30 due to inclement weather.

Community Alert Message

This is a community alert message from the Surry County 911 Communications Center. Please be advised that on Wednesday, December 13th we will be changing the short code (number) from which you receive SMS text message and Weather Warning messages, to 76993. This new number should be programmed into your mobile devices to ensure awareness for future CodeRED alerts. Please note, a short code is a 5-digit number that CodeRED uses to send messages to mobile devices and the number that comes across your mobile when an alert is delivered. Once you have programmed this number into your mobile under the proper name, all messages will display as addressed from "CodeRED Alert". No further action is required on your part.

Litter Collection for Non-Profit Groups

In October 2016, the Surry Board of Commissioners approved a litter collection program in conjunction with the NC Department of Transportation, to pay nonprofit organizations on a per-bag basis for litter picked up along roadsides chosen by the nonprofit organization.

Contractor Information Form

The Facilities Management department has added a Contractor Information Form to the County website in order that contractors and vendors interested in doing business with the County can be included in bidding opportunities that may arise in which their product or services may be beneficial to the County. Please click on the form under the Businesses tab and follow directions.

Motor Vehicle Tax and Tag

Beginning September 1st, 2013, all motor vehicle taxes must be paid when you renew your license plate tags at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Surry County will no longer collect motor vehicle taxes after this date. If you have questions please call the Tax Office at (336) 401-8100.
