Flags at Surry County facilities will be lowered Wednesday, August 12 through Friday, August 14 to honor the life of former County Commissioner Jimmy W. Miller, Sr. Mr. Miller served as a County Commissioner representing the Mount Airy District from 1988-2016. Among many of Mr. Miller’s advocacies over his 28 years as a County Commissioner was a strong affection for parks and recreation, including the significant expansion of Surry County’s Fisher River Park in 2001. These efforts led to a ballfield at the park being named in his honor. Mr. Miller was inducted into the Surry County Sports Ring of Honor in 2017 for his lifelong contributions to youth athletics as a citizen and elected official. The Board of Commissioners and our employees extend their thoughts and prayers to Mr. Miller’s family and thank him for his life of public service and contributions to our community.
