Rhonda Nixon New Finance Officer

The County of Surry is pleased to announce the appointment of Rhonda Nixon as County Finance Officer.  Ms. Nixon was appointed to the position by action taken by the Board of County Commissioners at their meeting on February 3, 2020.   She has been serving as Interim Finance Officer since November, 2019.      

Ms. Nixon has been employed with Surry County since 1998, working in the Finance Department for over 20 years.  She has served in all divisions of the Finance Department, becoming Financial Planner/ Internal Auditor in 2003 and transferring to Budget and Performance Director in 2018, working directly under the County Manager.  She has continued in this role, in addition to performing as interim Finance Officer, since November when the Finance Officer position became vacant.         

Ms. Nixon assumes the lead for the County’s budget process, working closely with all County departments and outside agencies throughout the entire budget process.  As Finance Officer, she will also oversee the County’s purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments, and debt issuance processes.

Ms. Nixon stated: “I appreciate the confidence and support shown to me by the Board of County Commissioners and County Administration.  I look forward to continuing my career with Surry County in this new role.”     

The County’s Finance Department is located in the Historic Courthouse, 114 West Atkins Street, Dobson, North Carolina.  Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 am until 5:00 pm.
