  • Zoning

The Local Ordinance Officer is responsible for enforcing all provisions of the Surry County Zoning Ordinance. This includes the following:

  • Inspecting issued Zoning Permits, Watershed Permits, etc.:
  • Frequent inspections of issued Conditional Use Permits:
  • Investigating reported and/or observed Zoning Ordinance violations:
  • Investigates cases of illegal land subdivisions:
  • Serves as secretary to the Board of Adjustment:
  • Serves on the Surry County Appearance Commission; and
  • Installs signage for zoning related cases

 

Code Enforcement

The Local Ordinance Officer is responsible for enforcing the following:

  • Frequently inspects grandfathered junkyards and automobile salvage yards:
  • Investigates reported and/or observed illegal junkyards and automobile salvage yards:
  • Investigates reported and/or observed derelict vehicles:
  • Frequently inspects manufactured home parks:
  • Investigates manufactured home park violations: and
  • Investigates manufactured home violations

 

Building Review

The Buildings Review Committee is responsible for investigating complaints relating to unsafe buildings and structures in the County’s land use jurisdiction. Upon an evaluation, it shall be the responsibility of the Committee to determine whether to condemn or recommend improvements to buildings or structures that appear to be in violation of N.C.G.S. 153-365 and 153-366. The Committee assists the Inspections Department in providing for the health, safety, and general welfare of its citizens.
