Precinct Officials

Precinct Officials work inside the polling place to process voters. They are employed and paid by the Surry County Board of Elections. They cannot, while serving, help campaign for any candidate, party, or proposition.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be a registered voter living in Surry County
  • Must not hold any elected office or be a candidate for election, or hold any office in a state, congressional district, county, or precinct political party/organization, or be the treasurer/manager of such party/organization
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must be able to read, write, and decipher information provided by voters
  • Must be able to complete all mandatory training sessions before Election Day
  • Must be able to assist with polling place setup at the pre-election meeting before Election Day
  • Must be able to work on Election Day from approximately 5:45 AM until approximately 9:00 PM or later as needed
