The petition has been submitted by Surry County Administration, for property identified as all those parcels of land located in the Mount Airy Township and recently included in the Extraterritorial Planning Jurisdiction of the City of Mount Airy; which jurisdiction the City on June 6, 2019 acted to relinquish to the County. The petition submits a proposed zoning map amendment that would place the entire subject area under County zoning jurisdiction, and on which County zoning district classifications appropriate and consistent with their former City zoning classifications have been assigned to all depicted properties.
The Surry County Planning Board will conclude its review of the Request at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019; and again on Monday, August, 12, 2019, at the Surry County Government Center, Third Floor, 118 Hamby Road, Dobson, NC, and will consider a recommendation of approval or denial to the Board of Commissioners. The public is invited to attend both meetings and may make oral or written comments in favor or opposing the rezoning request. The petition may be altered during or following the hearing. The decision to grant or deny any rezoning request is based upon legal merits of the case, and cannot, by law, be decided upon public sentiment alone. Nevertheless, the Board of Commissioners will consider evidence or material comments from concerned individuals.
