Real Estate & E-Recordings

The real estate records go back to the county's formation in 1771. Surry County was formed from Rowan County. In 1771 the county included the present day counties of Surry, Stokes (the eastern half of Surry formed in 1789), Forsyth (created from Stokes in 1849), and Yadkin (created from Surry in 1850).

These real estate records contain deeds from agents of Lord Granville, land grants from the state, bill of sale for slaves, mortgages, sheriff's deeds and divisions of property.

The original records are available to look at or copy from the imaging system and are also available on microfilm, and book format. The early index of these records is rather primitive. The oldest index covers the period from 1771 to 1870. The second index begins in 1870 and goes to 1937.
