Postpartum Newborn Assessments

Postpartum Newborn Assessments are conducted by a Registered Nurse who will visit Medicaid-eligible mothers and their newborn infants within 14 days of discharge from the hospital. The RN completes a medical assessment on mother and baby, as well as providing the families with referrals to community resources. The nurse answers questions, discusses self-care for the mother and infant care for the baby. The RN is trained as a breastfeeding educator and can address problems that may arise in the first week at home.
