The Tax Mapping Department
uses state-of-the-art GIS
technology to automate land
information by using data
processing technology to
update, retrieve, and
analyze information that is
usually stored in manual
records, maps, and cards.
This allows the county to
maintain accurate maps of
all real property located in
Surry County so that each
property owner can be taxed
based on the land actually
owned. In addition to
providing information needed
for tax purposes, the
Mapping Office assists
developers, surveyors,
attorneys, realtors, and the
general public to determine
location and ownership of
real property in Surry
County. |
